Jackie transitioned to law after a decade in STEM education. Recognized as one of Houston’s Top 30 Under 30 in education, she brought innovation to the classroom as a Teach For America corps member and later as Dean of Instruction and an instructional coach with EdConnective. Jackie’s expertise extended to STEM curriculum development consulting and nationwide teacher training on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), collaborating with organizations like Rice University’s STEMscopes, Education Pioneers, IdeaLabKids, and the British International School of Houston.
Driven by her passion for advocacy and research, Jackie pursued her law degree at the University of Houston Law Center, excelling both academically and professionally. She was a member of the Houston Law Review, where she was a Senior Articles Editor, showcasing her exceptional legal writing and analytical skills. Jackie’s talents earned her recognition in the ABA National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, where she was honored as a best speaker and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Jackie’s dedication to innovative legal research was evident through her work as a research assistant for the nation’s pioneering course on climate intervention law. Her contributions to cutting-edge topics like carbon capture and solar geoengineering demonstrated her drive to address critical environmental issues. Additionally, her scholarly excellence earned her an award for best paper in education law, further underscoring her commitment to tackling complex societal challenges.
During her legal studies, Jackie gained valuable experience as a judicial intern for both the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas and the Texas Education Agency. In these roles, she contributed to cases involving removal proceedings, habeas corpus petitions, disability findings, due process matters, and teacher certification disputes, honing her understanding of complex legal and regulatory frameworks. Beyond her internships, Jackie demonstrated her commitment to advocacy through volunteer work with organizations such as Disability Rights Texas, where she supported individuals with disabilities, and BPSOS Houston, where she contributed to empowering underserved communities.
Following graduation, Jackie continued her dedication to education by serving as a post-graduate teaching assistant for the U.S. Law LL.M program. In this role, she provided valuable guidance and support to foreign-trained attorneys as they prepared to take the U.S. Bar exam, leveraging her expertise to empower others in their professional journeys.
